Awesome - sorry it took so long to reply, I had to remember what I was trying to write ^-^ I'm just assuming that its a fox, too.
The overall colouring of this piece is great. I like that the fox is backlit - a different type of lighting to one you would normally see in artworks, mostly because it's difficult, but you've pulled it off quite well.
The snow looks realistic around the fox's paws but loses detail everywhere else; this itself could be a good thing as it doesn't draw attention away from the focal point, the fox, but it could use a bit more work, especially on the horizon - it looks too 'straight' or jaggedy, for want of a better word. To clarify this further, refer to these two pictures - [link] and [link] . The first one, the snow is more rounded on the horizon, while in the second it is more mountainous. I feel that it should be one or the other, not a bit of both.
Also, the pose of the fox is good, although the further foreleg disappearing into the snow looks a little off, as though it is reaching its leg further away than it could to disappear behind the hill rather than have its paw actually sink into the ground. This is only noticeable because the other paws do not sink that far, and the fox looks pretty well balanced for one that has it's paw stuck in a heap of snow.
The sky looks really good; those clouds are painted really well - they could be taken right out of a photo - and the darkness of the sky at the top balances with the shadows of the piece very well. The colour choice for the shading - purple, rather than blue - gives the artwork its emotion; the almost ominous feeling of things to come. The fact that the fox's fur also shows the reflected light on the snow is something that a lot of people would overlook, so kudos. With this, I think the left eye (looking at the picture) should be more highlighted as well, to correlate with the reflected light off the snow. But, this I'm not too sure about.
Again, lovely work, I hope this was helpful in some way or another C:
Yup, it's a fox. Blargh, snow is hard to draw, I need to practice drawing it more. I think part of the problem with the snow is the perspective looks off, at least to me.
Yeah, I noticed the thing with the leg too, but I was too lazy to fix it, haha. It looked better in the concept [link] where both of the fox's legs on that side were behind the hill/mound of snow/whatever, I'm not sure why I decided to change it in the final version but hey, I learned from my mistake xD
Thanks for the critique, you noticed a lot of things I didn't see.
You're welcome, and I can understand being lazy xD No artwork can be perfect.
I like that you do concept sketches; I don't do them myself and I really should. Although I haven't really attepted anything 'big' like this before except for in traditional painting. Hum. I'll have to have a go ~
